The project I am intending to complete for this unit is a project aimed at publicising tourism in certain cities. I am aiming to produce city guides that would guide a traveller through the cities and show them the sights in one, two or three days (and so on). This project will mix my degree of public relations and my passion of travelling into an interesting creative project. I am planning to complete city guides for a few American cities that I recently visited, as these are places I have recently travelled to and have experiences visiting for short periods of time. The objective of these guides is that they could essentially be sold to travel agencies, hotel concierges and tourist bureaus as a resource for their customers and guests. These resources would be helpful to travellers in planning their trips, and also to travel agents in making bookings for their customers. These guides could be used as an incentive for customers to book with those agencies with a ‘book and get your free travel guide today!’ this could really help agencies that are struggling to get customers to give themselves a competitive edge, or to help tourism bureaus or hotels to give their customers and visitors the best experience possible. Doing this as a creative project will challenge me to try and come up with a PR objective a little more creative than usual, and execute it myself instead of contracting someone else to do it like PR practitioners usually do. This would give me a better understanding of my field and of the people I will be working with regularly once I graduate. I plan on compiling the attractions and day plans for the cities I have chosen, then working into a creative format to be available for print and possibly turned into an app if the demand existed.
